With over 30 years’ experience and having practiced as a chartered building surveyor in three different countries, Rory brings a unique skillset and comprehensive knowledge of the industry to Prendos. He is Deputy Chair and Director of both the Building Surveying and Quantity Surveying departments. Based in Christchurch, Rory manages the company’s South Island region. He works closely with our Auckland based senior leadership team assisting with delivery of services for our national clients.
Rory monitors commercial activity, workflow and staff development, and supports his multi-disciplined team to deliver a wide range of commercial property consultancy services. He is active in managing and nurturing client relationships and enjoys the challenge of identifying and developing new services to meet our clients’ needs.
Originally from Ireland, Rory spent five years in London’s West End with a prominent European property consultancy. There, he honed his commercial building surveying skills, before setting up and running his own property consultancy in the south of Ireland for nine years, with a focus on the refurbishment of heritage properties.
In New Zealand, Rory has established a reputation for understanding complex property issues, particularly in the aftermath of the Canterbury and Kaikoura earthquakes, and more recently Cyclone Gabrielle. He has a proven track record of successfully delivering on numerous material damage insurance claim settlements, some for large institutions. He works closely with legal advisors and loss adjustors and acts as expert witness in mediations and the High Court, recently in judicial settlement conferences.
Rory is currently focused on commercial consultancy work such as Technical Due Diligence, maintenance management, condition assessment and lease reinstatement of commercial property portfolios.
As Prendos Deputy Chair and Director, Rory is actively involved with the Prendos board, CEO and Independent Chair in the ongoing governance of the company.
With a keen interest in supporting and developing the next generation of building surveyors, Rory prepares and presents Module 14: TDD for Commercial Buildings as part of the NZIBS core module training programme.
In his spare time, Rory continues to get to the start and finish line of various half marathons, sometimes plucking up the courage to compete in the odd full marathon event.
