Registered Building Surveyor and past Director of Prendos, Philip now consults with Prendos on mid-rise building façade design reviews and provides expert evidence for weathertightness and building related matters.
Philip qualified as a civil engineer and spent his early career working in structural engineering, building design, project and company management. He joined Prendos in 1995 and became a BRANZ Accredited Advisor and Registered Building Surveyor in 1996. He gained significant experience in identifying and dealing with building defects, including moisture problems and timber decay. This led him to consider and promote the principles and practices that would eventually be introduced into the industry to ensure weathertightness performance.
Philip was instrumental in communicating the extent of the leaky buildings problem to the industry, the government and the public. He has since worked tirelessly with government groups and industry organisations to help resolve the systemic aspects of leaky buildings and timber related problems. He also has significant knowledge and experience as a building expert in preparing and presenting evidence in court.
Philip is a past President of the Cladding Institute of New Zealand, and past President and Life Member of the New Zealand Institute of Building Surveyors (NZIBS). Philip regards his groundbreaking work with weathertightness to be his biggest achievement, along with helping Prendos grow into a one of New Zealand’s leading building consultancies.
