Lusa Tuleasca

Chartered Structural Engineer

An engineer with many years’ experience in the specialist area of structural surveying, designing and strengthening of buildings affected by earthquakes, Lusa’s principal role with Prendos is the undertaking of seismic assessments – Initial Seismic Assessments (ISA/IEP) and Detailed Seismic Assessments (DSA/DEE) – and the provision of detailed analyses and designs for the seismic and structural strengthening of buildings.

Lusa began her career as a structural engineer and senior lecturer in Romania (Gh. Asachi Technical University) before immigrating to New Zealand and taking up a 1 year role as researcher and tutor at the University of Auckland’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. This was followed by a consecutive 15 year period as lecturer, senior lecturer, and researcher at UNITEC’s Department of Civil Engineering, teaching the Bachelor of Engineering Technology course covering fundamental structural design principles in relation to concrete, timber and steel structures.

Throughout her career, Lusa’s penchant for knowledge has sustained an active interest in research as evidenced by her membership of numerous professional engineering organisations, co-authorship of two books on reinforced concrete and an extensive list of research contracts and publications, mainly in relation to the field of seismic behaviour and response patterns, and the structural characteristics of reinforced, pre-stressed and high-strength fibre-reinforced concretes.

Lusa views the opportunity to teach and guide students to become responsible civil engineers (mainly structural engineers) as her most satisfying venture.
