Increasing earthquake resistance of existing buildings through the design of robust seismic strengthening.
Following a Detailed Seismic Assessment (DSA), seismic strengthening may be required to increase a building’s earthquake resistance.
Seismic strengthening concepts are typically included with our recommendations when we produce a DSA report. We have a great deal of experience designing effective and economic seismic strengthening with current materials and techniques. Our structural engineers have carried out a large number of seismic strengthening designs, on buildings varying widely in scale, type and usage. From small single storey commercial buildings up to a large, multi-storey school buildings comprising several wings, our structural team are well equipped to design seismic strengthening for your building.
We are also a member of a Territorial Authority Seismic Assessment Panel, further endorsing our expertise in seismic assessment and strengthening work.
All our design work is in accordance with MBIE Guidelines (‘The Seismic Assessment of Existing Buildings, July 2017).
We design seismic strengthening for:
- Steel frame buildings
- Reinforced concrete frame and shear wall buildings
- Unreinforced masonry buildings (URM)
- Buildings with precast floors
- Timber framed buildings
